Despite challenging economic times, organizations continue to demonstrate their commitment to developing the knowledge and skills of the workforce, according to a new research report from the American Society of Training & Development (ASTD). The ASTD 2010 State of the Industry report shows that organizations are leveraging technology more than ever before to deliver training to employees, and learning professionals are managing their training functions with increased efficiency and effectiveness.

“Data from this report shows that business leaders understand the importance of building the capabilities of their talent, regardless of the economic climate,” said Tony Bingham, ASTD president and CEO. “Investing in developing the most knowledgeable, skilled workforce is paramount for companies. No other organizational resource can have an impact on a company’s success more than its people.”

Published for 14 years, ASTD’s State of the Industry report details the training investments and practices of hundreds of organizations from a variety of industries. The 2010 report includes data from three different groups: companies in the ASTD Benchmarking Forum, winning organizations from the ASTD BEST Awards, and a consolidated sample that includes data from organizations participating in ASTD’s Workplace Learning and Performance Scorecard, as well as organizations in ASTD’s Benchmarking Forum and BEST Awards.
